small steps, big difference.

One of the world's most pressing issues is the ever-worsening climate emergency. But the severity of the issue often makes environmental activism quite daunting. So, what can you do?

reuse

Make sure every item you throw out really needs to be thrown out. Hand down old clothing to friends or siblings, buy reusable bottles instead of plastic ones, and make sure to be careful with your use of paper.

switch up Your meals

Although vegans receive more than their fair share of hate, environmentally-talking, veganism is the way to go.

Too much of a stretch? Try buying local/organic meat and making sure you plan meals beforehand (or remind your parents to do so) in order to not over-shop.

shop smart

Fast fashion can be seen everywhere in today's world. It's easy, cheap, and (unfortunately) very common.

We’ve likely all participated in and enjoyed it, but trying to edge out of the cycle can be as simple as avoiding certain brands, or shopping either locally or in places that make clothes in an eco-friendly way!

Wondering if your favourite brands are eco-friendly? Check out Good On You's brand directory!

You can also cut down on food waste by shopping smart. Talk with your parents about planning out meals (if you haven’t already) so that you buy only what you need.

sco-friendly commuting

Considering how bad gas cars can be for the environment, we recommend walking, cycling, using public transport, carpooling, or even trying to persuade your parents/guardians to choose an electric car as their next vehicle. And if your school’s school bus takes a stop near your house, make sure to get there on time to avoid the carbon emissions and angry parents that come with needing an extra drive to school!

take initiative

While small tips like these ones do the Earth a huge favour, you might start wanting to do more. Things like protests, strikes, and other related events are things that you can not only attend, but organize! Look around for environmental activism groups near you and send an email asking about any open spots. This is a quick, effective, and hugely helpful way to join the efforts against climate change.

If this section is of particular interest to you (or even if you’re just a little interested), check out the section on this website titled Take Initiative.

inform yourself + be aware of the backlash

Climate change is one of the most controversial global issues of our time, but it's unavoidable and the statistics surrounding it are unignorable. If you plan on being an advocate for the environment, you need to be aware of the facts. Taking a look at some of the main evidence of climate change and at how to best present climate change to skeptics will help you to inform others.

talk about it

Now that you’re informed and armed with skills to help the environment, talk to your friends about it. Tell them what they can do to help the environment!
